In the past, only certain amounts of nearsightedness were able to be corrected with LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis). With the advances in LASIK technology, surgeons are now able to correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. At Baker Eye Institute, Dr. David L. Baker uses the most advanced laser vision correction technology available including the Advanced CustomVue procedure.
Conventional laser treatments are based solely on the prescription of your eyes. For example, if two patients both have the same amount of nearsightedness and astigmatism, their treatments would be exactly the same.
With Advanced CustomVue, a 3-D map of each eye is taken using the WaveScan aberrometer. This 3-D map is like a fingerprint image of the eye, taking into account all of the eye’s unique imperfections. The WaveScan information is 25 times more precise than traditional measurements for glasses or contact lens prescriptions. For patients with astigmatism, including those mixed astigmatism, this provides a new level of precision and accuracy. Only Advanced CustomVue has the ability when combined with Iris Registration (IR) to fine tune your optical treatment while providing outstanding safety when treating your eye with the STAR S4 VISX Excimer laser. Other benefits of the CustomVue treatment include decreased incidence of glare and halos around lights at night and better contrast sensitivity between colors.
With Advanced CustomVue, Dr. Baker is able to treat the broadest range of prescriptions approved by the FDA for wavefront-guided laser vision correction. Not all laser vision correction can promise this type of individualized treatment especially when combined with the IntraLase Blade Free technology.
